Poetry & Process
A quick overview of what you can expect from this newsletter. And one stanza that I love!
Creativity has brought renewal to my life
I have not always been a writer. Poetry is a style that has just recently captured my attention. This is certainly not what I do full time. This is my creative. You might see some polish here. You definitely will see the raw. My hope is that this newsletter will inspire through the published work, and also inspire your creative inside.
Poetry
Poetry found me five years ago. I didn’t go looking for it, and honestly I don’t recall the first poem or the first poet that inspired me to keep reading, but I did and now find myself seeing poetry in just about every aspect of life. This led me to began writing my own poetry inconsistently a few years back and consistently just over a year ago. As my list of completed writings has grown, I’ve found myself wanting to share some pieces with my family, some with my friends, and now, whoever else may be out there. I intend to share a finished poem every one to two weeks on this platform, followed by a post about the poem and how it came to be within the week. I’m planning this format with the hope that you, along with this community of writers and readers will dialogue through the comments first about what the poem speaks to you, then I will follow up with a post about the poem’s inspiration and meaning to me.
Process
I also plan to share my process of writing and where I find inspiration along the way. Anyone who creates knows the process is an adventure that you have to reckon with. Starts and stops, drafts and more drafts, flow and stuck-ness. Whatever it is, I will share it in the Chat section of Substack. So if you are curious about how I’m writing on a particular day, what I’m reading, or where inspiration arose from, please engage with me in the Chat section as well. I hope that over time this will grow to a place where creatives can be inspired by direct interaction with each other’s processes.
A stanza…
As evening settles into my being
presence is strung together like a sunset
melding hues of deep blues, royal purples,
passionate pinks and compassionate oranges
to one bright concentrated center.
Light is cast into the prior today
permeating my memories and I see
vibrancy that was there all along,
and I see color that will be with me
in every moment tomorrow.
